EcoLogo Certifies More Tork Towels
and Tissues
PHILADELPHIA -- SCA Tissue has added
five SKUs to its list of EcoLogo
certified towels, facial tissues,
bath tissues and napkins, bringing
the total number to 75.
Receiving EcoLogo
certification were SKUs of Tork
Advanced Dinner Napkins, Tork
Advanced Perforated Roll Towel, and
Tork Advanced and Tork Universal
Facial Tissue Flat Boxes.
“These latest certifications means
that all Tork Universal and Tork
Advanced napkins and facial tissues
are now EcoLogo certified,” said
Mike Kapalko, Environmental and Tork
Services Manager, SCA Tissue. “Our
growing list of third-party
certified products reflects our
ongoing commitment to
sustainability.”
While many traditional environmental
certification programs examine
single attributes such as recycled
content or chlorine-free
manufacturing, EcoLogo
certification takes a holistic
approach by measuring a company’s
total environmental impact. Being
EcoLogo certified requires stringent
and ongoing third-party review of a
company’s eco-footprint, from energy
and water use to waste and effluent
discharge.
EcoLogo is North America’s oldest
and most widely recognized
certification of environmental
leadership. It also is the only
North American standard accredited
by the
Global Ecolabeling Network (GEN) as
meeting the international ISO 14024
standard for environmental labels.
SCA
Tissue North America, one of the
largest producers of Away-From-Home
tissue products in North America,
was the first American papermaker to
earn EcoLogo certification.
All
of SCA Tissue’s napkins, towels and
tissue are made from 100 percent
recycled fibers. Each year, SCA
Tissue turns more than 700,000 tons
of recycled paper, including 200,000
tons of post-consumer waste. That’s
enough waste paper to cover 218
football fields (including end
zones) more than 3-feet deep.
From
its use of recycled raw materials
and a mill of origin program that
cuts transportation fuel usage to
its process chlorine-free bleaching
fiber treatment, industry-leading
water conservation initiatives and
innovative dispensing systems that
reduce paper consumption, SCA Tissue
is recognized as an environmental
leader in North America.
Parent company SCA, a $16.9 billion
global consumer goods and paper
company headquartered in Stockholm,
Sweden, was named the second
greenest company on the planet last
year in a ranking by Ethical
Investment Research Services, a
leading non-profit provider of
independent research into the
social, environmental and ethical
performance of more than 2,800
companies worldwide.
