What’s new at NSC 2008 Congress & Expo

The National Safety Council’s 96th Congress & Expo, an annual event for safety, health and environmental professionals, will be held in Anaheim, CA, Sept. 19-24, offering industry-leading technology, education, networking opportunities, and proven products and services needed to remain competitive within the industry.

The event is a “rich opportunity to gather with thousands of world class safety and health professionals, business leaders and representatives from local, state and federal government who share a passion for safety and a desire to make a difference as individuals and as leaders,” said Joseph J. Uccifero, chairman of the NSC board of directors.

“This year’s sessions and seminars reflect a full and diverse range of industry needs and interests at every level – from instruction on establishing, meeting and managing safety requirements and accountabilities to processes for instilling a safety culture that transcends the workplace to include the safety and health of employees and their families in all aspects of their lives.”

This year’s event also features opportunities to hear from nationally recognized leaders from both the public and private sectors.

William Bennett, television commentator, radio host and former U.S. Secretary of Education, provides the Monday, Sept. 22 Opening Session keynote. Dubbed “the Drug Czar” during the George H. Bush administration, Bennett will offer his perspective on the 2008 presidential election as well as the epidemic of prescription drug overdoses now sweeping the nation.

A new Executive Forum follows Monday’s Opening Session. “Transforming Vision to Reality” will feature a panel of senior executives offering insights into the challenges and keys to success for establishing safety cultures within their organizations. To enhancing the Congress & Expo experience, lunch on the Expo Floor on Monday and Tuesday; take advantage of the WiFi Lounge at the Email Oasis, a Web-based module, and enjoy the numerous outings and other networking opportunities.

Over three days, 7,000 buyers will visit the Expo Floor, which offers 190,000 net square feet of over 800 companies showcasing the latest products and services.

Plus, it includes a New Product Showcase and Live Product Demonstration area that continue to enhance participant’s experience year after year.

Over 130 Technical Sessions, selected by a team that has hands on knowledge of the latest industry trends, provide the most comprehensive information for attendees.

The Occupational Keynote, titled “The Future of OSHA,” will be held Monday, Sept. 22 At 1:30 p.m. in the Anaheim Convention Center’s Arena. The 2008 elections will have implications for domestic and international safety, health and environmental policy for many years to come. Presenters will share their alternate forecasts for the future of occupational safety.

Consistent with this focus on the future of safety professionals, the NSC has launched two initiatives aimed at future safety professionals, and fulltime college students pursuing safety careers now can sign up for a free National Safety Council membership.

Student member benefits will include opportunities to network with seasoned safety and health leaders, stay current on industry news, and tap into the Council’s more than 95 years of safety knowledge and experience.

The Council also launched a Faculty Portal for college and university faculty who teach future safety professionals.

Once registered, faculty will be able to order desk copies of books, access a complete list of NSC Press books, and obtain industry news.

The College & University Initiative: Education & Research Group includes safety and health curriculum professors and their students.

Its mission supports and promotes safety and health through educational programs, curriculum and research. Membership and involvement provide professional, academic and personal networking opportunities.

The College & University Initiative: Campus EHS Professionals Group focuses on the unique safety concerns that affect professionals with environmental health and safety responsibilities in the higher education arena.

This group collaborates with campus professionals from institutions across the nation and internationally to address and answer the challenges facing colleges and universities today.
