Nearly 5 Million Workers Affected by OSHA’s
New Cranes Rule
DAVENPORT, IA –
About 267,000 construction-related companies employing about 4.8
million workers will be affected by a new
OSHA
rule addressing the use of cranes and derricks in construction
that will take effect on Nov. 8, 2010, replacing a decades-old
standard.
“OSHA is to be
commended for their efforts in addressing this serious safety
concern,” said Benjamin W. Mangan, founder and president of
MANCOMM, a publishing firm that
develops and publishes
regulatory compliance products.
To help America’s construction industry meet
the requirements of the new standard, MANCOMM has released a new
regulatory guide, OSHA Crane Regulations.
“Too many lives have been lost already to
accidents involving cranes and derricks,” Mangan said, “and we
are doing our part to inform the construction industry about
these new regulations.”
According to Secretary of Labor Hilda L.
Solis, “the significant number of fatalities associated with the
use of cranes in construction led the Labor Department to
undertake this rulemaking.”
According to OSHA, the new rule is designed
to prevent the leading causes of fatalities, including
electrocution, crushed-by/struck-by hazards during
assembly/disassembly, collapse and overturn.
Like most
MANCOMM products, this new
publication, OSHA Crane
Regulations, was made
with RegLogic, a
unique graphical approach that makes navigating and reading
regulations easier. Features include color coding for fast
reference, bold text and italics, enhanced color graphics, and
an outline format with indents to allow the user to find needed
information more quickly. The 8.5” x 11” 36-page spiral-bound
book lays flat when opened, and its laminated covers add extra
durability for outdoor use.
“Our goal is to join OSHA in preventing
fatalities by making the regulations easier to use,” Mangan
said. “OSHA provides the most highly regarded safety information
in the world and RegLogic maximizes the readability of that
information.”
