Clarion Safety Systems Establishes Doctoral Scholarship

DES PLAINES, IL -- The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation has received a donation from Clarion Safety Systems of Milford, Pa. for an annual scholarship that will be named the Clarion Safety Doctoral Scholarship.

Starting in April, 2012, the $5,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time student pursuing a doctoral degree in occupational safety and health, or a closely related field.  The student should be enrolled in at least nine credit hours or more per semester. Priority will be given to a student with a background in environmental health and safety (EH&S) communications.

Graduate students applying for the scholarship must have a 3.5 grade point average (GPA), on all graduate work, and a 3.0 GPA on all undergraduate work.

Prior to the establishment of the  Clarion Safety Doctoral Scholarship, the company has been a long time sponsor of ASSE initiatives, including ‘Safety 2012’, the Society’s annual professional development conference taking place this spring in Denver, Co.

To reduce risk and protect people in the workplace, Clarion Safety Systems designs and manufactures product safety labels and facility safety signs in more than 180 industries.  As part of this mission, for more than two decades Clarion has used their experience and expertise to lead the way on a wide variety of standards-writing committees to develop best practices in visual safety communications in the U.S. and around the globe.

The ASSEF, established by and in partnership with ASSE, generates funding and provides resources for scholarship, applied research, academic accreditation and related academic initiative in order to advance the safety, health and environmental profession.
